Lecture: BSEE's Burner Project

Karen Stone, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement
Thursday, April 20, 2023

We hope you can join this lecture — part of the monthly lecture series, You Don't Know What You Don't Know!

In this month's episode, we'll learn about the world of clean-burning oil combustion. Karen Stone from the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) will explain BSEE's Burner Project.

Ms. Stone serves as Chief of the Response Research Branch within BSEE's Oil Spill Preparedness Division (OSPD). The Branch has two sections: Oil Spill Response Research and the Ohmsett Facility. The Oil Spill Response research section strives to shape the landscape of offshore oil spill response focusing on mechanical recovery and containment; chemical treatments, such as dispersants; shoreline cleanup; remote sensing; in situ burning; and most recently, spill mitigation measures for oils associated with renewable energy systems such as dielectric fluid from wind turbines.

Mark your calendar for this month's lecture on the third Thursday of the month at noon PT — and please feel free to share the series with others in the professional spill planning, response, and environmental science communities.
