Lecture: Dang Nature, You're Scary! A Survival Guide to Gulf Coast Weather

Brandon Black, Meteorologist, National Weather Service
Thursday, April 18, 2024

We hope you can join this lecture — part of the monthly lecture series, You Don't Know What You Don't Know!

In this month's episode, we'll learn from Brandon Black, Meteorologist with NOAA's National Weather Service in Mobile, Alabama, as he presents a survival guide to hazardous meteorologist events on the Gulf Coast.

Brandon has been with the Weather Service for over five years, working numerous significant weather events including tornado outbreaks, hurricanes, and even a couple of ice events.

Brandon got into weather like most meteorologists, as a young kid. Growing up in a family of Captains on an island in southwest Florida, and experiencing numerous tropical systems growing up, he developed a fascination and respect for the weather and the importance it plays.

Brandon received a Bachelor's degree in Meteorology in 2017 from North Carolina State University (Go Wolfpack!) and quickly followed it up with a Masters in Geospatial Sciences and Technologies from NC State as well. Brandon’s specialties are severe weather forecasting, mainly tornadoes and tropical weather.

Mark your calendar for this month's lecture on the third Thursday of the month at noon PT — and please feel free to share the series with others in the professional spill planning, response, and environmental science communities.
