SEPTEMBER 16, 2016--The latest version of the CAMEO Chemicals hazardous materials database is now available, and it includes multilingual response guides and two new data sources.

With CAMEO Chemicals, you can learn about critical response information for thousands of chemicals in the database, and you can also use the reactivity tool to find out what hazards (such as explosions or corrosive byproducts) might occur when two substances mix together.

CAMEO Chemicals is currently available as a website, mobile website, and a desktop program. An app version for tablets and mobile phones is under development.

A key change in CAMEO Chemicals 2.7 is the added ability to see response guides in English, Spanish, or French on the UN/NA datasheets. The guides are from the 2016 Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG). Additionally, the chemical datasheets in CAMEO Chemicals have been modified to include external links to two new data sources: NIOSH Pocket Guides and International Chemical Safety Cards.

These enhancements were added as part of the development efforts related to Presidential Executive Order 13650 to improve chemical facility safety and security. Many of the goals identified by the Executive Order working group centered around improving the ability of emergency responders to access data and also to help enhance connections between separate data sources. The new additions in this version of CAMEO Chemicals will help provide critical information for emergency responders and planners.

CAMEO Chemicals is part of the CAMEO® software suite, which is developed jointly by NOAA and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The CAMEO suite provides tools to assist responders during chemical emergencies, and to help emergency planners prepare for them ahead of time.
